Fox News Reporter Phil Shuman Exposes The Negative Effects of AmbienOn February 10th Fox News investigative reporter Phil Shuman exposes the negative effects of Ambien and its impact on users of this harmful sedative hypnotics prescription medication.

Ambien was introduced in Europe in 1988, and in the United States five years later. Since its introduction to the U.S., Ambien has become the most prescribed sleep medication in the United States.
With so many people who suffer from insomnia, it is no wonder that millions of Americans have sought relieve by taking this medication that has some serious side effects, and has been the contributing factor in hundreds of reported sleepwalking episodes, DUI arrests, and as many as many 5 deaths from exposure in freezing outdoor conditions.

I spoke on the phone with Fox News producer Dan Leighton, and while he would not give me any specifics on what reporter Phil Shuman would be covering in his report, but it was clear this wasn’t going to be a warm and friendly account on the benefits of Ambien, but rather a look into the damaging effects of the drug Zolpidem, and how it has been reported to have caused abnormal and disturbing side effects like sleepwalking and other serious issues include as many as 5 deaths.

Fox News Dan Leighton also said that reporter Phil Shuman would be interviewing Los Angeles Doctor David Dubin, and David Mayen, CNP on how this drug that is considered by many to be a counter productive treatment for insomnia that actually provides limited short term relief, while creating serious side effects that have resulted in variety of additional heath concerns and even the reported DUI arrest of a Florida Police Office, who was later fired as a result.

A recent Norwegian study published in The Journal of Sleep Medicine showed clinical evidence of no improvement of sleep quality between test subjects taking Ambien and Lunesta, compared to the control group who took only placebos. Yet over $ 4.5 billion worth of these medications were prescribed to Americans in 2009.

Tune in to Fox News 11 on February 10th for the full report from Phil Shuman on the disturbing effects of Ambien. And make sure you visit David Mayens site Sleep Recovery Centers.

I challenge Mr. Fleming to provide a legitimate citation for the “Norwegian Study”. In fact, I challenge Mr. Fleming to provide a legitimate citation for any article from “The Journal of Sleep Medicine”. I searched Medline for this article since I am interested in the science, and can find neither ther article or the journal. I can only surmise that Mr. Fleming is making this stuff up. Anybody with any credibility and ethics would provide appropriate citations so that others can locate the source document.
