The regular task of writing quality promotion articles on an editororial calendar can be daunting and even downright frustrating at times; and for the novice wordsman, creating new fresh content for your blog or promotion site can even cause them to hit that dark ugly wall commonly referred to as "writers Block:.
The concept of article promotion doesn’t have to be complicated, and with years of daily practice I have developed some solid techniques in writing quality promotion articles that I use in my daily grind at the computer to develop fresh relevant content for customers. These techniques put each article or subject matter into focus by applying a relaxed set of guidelines to my promotion articles, freeing me to do what I do best…Just write!
The basic idea of article promotion is to present your readers with compelling keyword rich facts and useful information about your topic that will engage them to take your calls to action. Your promotion articles must be an easy to read flowing statement of the facts and relevant account of the topic or subject you are promoting.
For each topic or subject i write about, i perform these steps:
- Detailed research on the topic or subject,
- An outline of the facts and relevant information in order of importance, including names, dates, and times
- A list of supporting facts, claims, or citations on the subject. A good example of this would be: in the case of a rare or unique event, any documented proof of the event, such as pictures, police reports or witness accounts that are on record for this occurring.
- A short list of relating or similar topics or subjects. The type of information can be used for writing sidebar articles.
- A list of the primary and secondary keywords and phrases for this topic.
I use Google, and Wikipedia as my primary sources for common topic and keyword research, and in some cases where i was researching historical facts, I have found useful information at the U.S. Library of Congress. The notes i compile on my topics are the backbone of the facts and relevant information i will use for writing my promotion article and i always save them for future reference. Typically when I undertake a new client or topic, i save this new research information with the corresponding articles.
Now with my fact finding mission complete, it is time to do what we writers do, and that is write. I won’t bore you with the mechanics of composition, because every writer has a different style and approach to how they write, but the key to writing quality effective promotion articles is a balanced mix of the facts and relevant information infused with keyword rich calls to action in an easy to understand format that is relevant to the topic or subject. This balance is important because we don’t want to bore our potential readers with a sluggish blow by blow description on the history of parties or common items purchased, or on the other hand minimized or make light of serious or technical subjects.
My approach is to weave the facts with relevant supporting information that will engage my potential readers, an example of this approach is when i wrote an article about how Las Vegas homeowners could save money installing artificial grass, i reinforce this fact with a statement about the Las Vegas Water Authority offering rebates to homeowners for replacing their real grass with artificial grass. The most effective method in getting your readers to take your calls to action is to excite them with information that is valuable to them.
In an effort to stretch my useful content in my promotion articles i often look for ways to include supporting facts or related information that gives my articles some space or breathing room. Readers don’t want to be hammered over the head or pushed with endless statements of the facts. In an article i ghost authored for hand held metal detectors, i recounted a reported story about a man who had bought one of these metal detectors and subsequently found the wedding ring his wife had lost years before in their backyard. The writing angle allowed me to infuse support facts of the value of purchasing a metal detector while relating a true story that had a beautify happy ending.
Using this research method for each new topic you write about will provide the facts and enough detailed background that will give you the freedom to just sit down and write compelling copy that will draw your readers in, and motivate them to taking your calls to action. Remember that article promotion is about give and take; the body of your informative fact based article is what you are giving them, the take is your calls to action, and links in your articles resource box.
